Olympic Jubilee

If you live in London – or maybe even the rest of the country too, I’m not sure – you are probably already tired of hearing about the damn Jubilee celebrations or the bloody Olympics. As something of anti-royalist and the kind of person who would rather eat glass than watch sports, I feel like neither of these events is really aimed at me. And yet I’m going to find myself massively inconvenienced by both of them, when buses stop running, the Tube becomes packed with tourists and I don’t get my new HR software UK version on time because all the guys in our IT department are spending their days trying to buy Olympics tickets online….

In fact, the only positive to come out of either of these utterly tedious, yet very expensive-to-the-taxpayer events, is that we get an extra days'Bank Holiday to celebrate the Jubilee. Cheers Queenie! I was considering getting the hell out of London for both events, but my pal has organised an anti-Jubilee party, which should be fun, and the Olympics go on so long that I couldn’t afford to miss that much time at work. Looks like I’m stuck with lost tourists asking me the way to the wrestling arena and the running stadium, or whatever it is they do at the games!

At least there a few things that are aimed at cultured people like me; apparently there are going to be special performances of Olympic-related plays, operas and ballets. Not sure how you get the javelin into a ballet, but it will be interesting to see how they work it in! Best of all, a lot of the shows are free – or at least they are screened free around the city. Perhaps it might be worth emerging from the safety and shelter of my flat every now and then. How bad can it be…?
