Thinking Of London? You Should Read This

Oh, it’s a great day. After a lot of consideration, researching the capital cities of all the countries around the world, you have come to the conclusion that yes, you want to honour the great city of London with your presence. And guess what? London would be pleased to have you! But before you go, take the time to read a bit about what to expect. 1) Expect to be ripped off at every turn. Fantastic as London is, the place can be expensive, so be prepared to deal hunt. London is certainly not the insight hybrid of cities – efficient economical it is not, but it is exciting and busy. Also expect lots and lots of people who are always in a rush and don’t always take too kindly to being stopped for directions. It’s not that londoners aren’t friendly, it’s just that it’s a busy place and the rushing never stops. 2) Buy an Oyster card as soon as you arrive. This is a big deal, because if you buy a regular ticket every time you travel then the costs will soon rack up. OK, so using an Oyster card is also expensive on a day to day basis, but compared with the cost of a new ticket every time you travel, it’s nothing less than an absolute bargain. 3) Stand on the right hand side when using escalators. Loud speakers regularly announce to the public that they should do this, but for some reason, maybe due to the noise generated by commuter traffic, many don’t hear it. Remember, the left hand side is ONLY for people who want to walk up the escalators. People can get very annoyed if you get in their way! 4) If you get lost, ask in a shop, but make sure you buy something if you want a good answer. Because of the thousands of tourists in the city, this rule is especially important to follow, to prove that some of us really do care!
