Olympic Jubilee

posted by admin in Uncategorized

If you live in London – or maybe even the rest of the country too, I’m not sure – you are probably already tired of hearing about the damn Jubilee celebrations or the bloody Olympics. As something of anti-royalist and the kind of person who would rather eat glass than watch sports, I feel like neither of these events is really aimed at me. And yet I’m going to find myself massively inconvenienced by both of them, when buses stop running, the Tube becomes packed with tourists and I don’t get my new HR software UK version on time because all the guys in our IT department are spending their days trying to buy Olympics tickets online….

Yes you live in London. And yes there are plenty of amazing and unusual quirky little clubs that you could mooch on down to, and there are heaps of cool bars that you could hang at. But… Have you ever considered magician hire london? I said it! Magician hire, maybe it sounds like the most uncool thing you have ever had suggested to you, but hold up… You are wrong. Try something different

posted by admin in Uncategorized

Sometimes, going out on the weekend, having a few drinks and dancing the night away can get a bit boring. Only sometimes, mind you. Every now and then, me and my mates like to try something a bit different. Nothing too weird, mind you; ever since that ill-advised trip to a slightly seedy burlesque club that was actually more of a fetish night, we’ve steered clear of anything that describes itself as “risqué”. After all, we’re teachers, nurses or work in biomedical jobs – we don’t really do risqué! I’ll never forget Mark’s face when he got persuaded onto the stage to assist with one of the musical numbers…

Viva Cake is one of my personal favourites, a 50s tea dance with a difference; waitresses on roller skates, a knitting circle and sexy outfits that would have had my Grandma tutting and rolling her eyes. The music is a mix of everything from genuine waltzes and quicksteps to punk and cheesy disco tunes. OK, the might not sound much different from your regular nights out of drinks and dancing, but the chance to dress up in some ludicrous 50s-with-a-twist outfits definitely elevates Viva Cake above the run of the mill Saturday night.

If you’re one of those people who think romance is dead and that we all die alone, then Down with Dating is the night for you. A monthly get-together, based around the concept of speed-dating but with the eventual aim being to put off as many people as possible, some of the questions I’ve faced on previous occasions have been “Which tropical disease are you most like?” and “Do you mind that I still share a bed with my mother?” Don’t forget it’s all good fun – no-one takes themselves too seriously here. And bizarrely one of my friends actually met her current boyfriend at the Down with Dating Christmas party…
