Try something different

Sometimes, going out on the weekend, having a few drinks and dancing the night away can get a bit boring. Only sometimes, mind you. Every now and then, me and my mates like to try something a bit different. Nothing too weird, mind you; ever since that ill-advised trip to a slightly seedy burlesque club that was actually more of a fetish night, we’ve steered clear of anything that describes itself as “risqué”. After all, we’re teachers, nurses or work in biomedical jobs – we don’t really do risqué! I’ll never forget Mark’s face when he got persuaded onto the stage to assist with one of the musical numbers…

Swanning it in Stockwell

Those of us night-lovers south of the river have long been aware of a really rocking venue for fun club nights on both Fridays and Saturdays – the Swan at Stockwell. Literally across the road from Stockwell tube station, and with several bus routes heading north, south, west and east, this lively pub with a club on top has been a local favourite for years, but is also easy to get to for clubbers from across the city.

Admission to the club is through a door at the side, on the Stockwell Road entrance. Every weekend, long queues of young people testify to the club’s popularity. Originally an Irish pub playing Irish music in the upstairs club, the Swan soon branched out to offer all types of music, but especially folk and pop.

In recent years the club has also joined the circuit for ‘look-alike'and, perhaps more importantly, ‘sound-alike'bands who dress up and play great hits from groups such as Abba, Queen, the Rolling Stones, and AC/DC.

The Swan begins to fill up from about 7 pm, and, as I indicated, queues for admission begin to form from about 10 pm. The queue is always good natured, with the doormen or bouncers joking and laughing with the crowd.

Once inside, it is quite common for the pub to include one free drink with the admission price. Usually this is a beer that is on promotion, a particular wine, or an alcopop. Since I quite like to drink Johnnie Walker blue label when I am out, I usually give my free drink voucher to whatever clubber catches my eye. I hope that this goodwill engendered will improve my evening in other ways later on!

London Loves Everyone

London as a city caters to all and sundry. The nightlife beckons to everyone for fun and frolic. The best thing about this city is no one can head home disappointed because London has ensured that it will provide for everyone. It is the variation and the variety that wins everybody’s heart out here. There will never be a dearth of entertainment in London.

If eating is your main concern, it hardly suffices to say you are in the right city. In fact you are in the best city if world cuisine is your passion. From Malay to Jamaican food to fusions of every kind, if a kind of food in not found here, then probably it doesn’t exist. For the culturally inclined there are a variety of operas, theatricals, jazz clubs and comedy nights everyday.

For the hip-hop and happening, there is such a diverse mix of nightclubs to choose from. London takes care to cater to everyone according to personal styles and preferences. For example, if you want a Bollywood night, then there will be a club specifically designed to provide that kind of atmosphere, or if you and your peer group are into gothic style, then you can head to a club which will make you feel the beat. But it’s important to be careful while dancing as it can cause neck injury. Apart from dancing and boozing, there are casinos and gaming arcades open till late night, not to mention the shopping areas. On weekends these places can be quite crowded as everyone heads out to feel the humdrum of this great city.

Night Out On Brick Lane

We all love it when the weekend comes. But for us young people most of which live in London on a very small wages to begin with we find it hard to find options for what to do that fits in with our time and financial constraints. I find myself quite often dressing up a night in with my girlfriend to make spending a cheap night with a DVD and a microwave meal really special. She seems to be getting wind of it now so I need to start finding other things to do that doesn’t cost very much money.

When me an my friend who get a free pass for the night – free pass meaning our girlfriends are off doing something else and we can get up to whatever we like – we find the cheapest and best way to get as drunk as possible in the shortest amount of time for the least amount of money.

What we did the other night after finishing work is pop along to the East End of London to Brick Lane where you will be inundated with people touting you to go to their establishment. The good thing about this is it gives you the opportunity to haggle and get the best offer when it comes to the price of the meal. The other good thing is you can also drink quite cheaply as most places along there are bring your own. Not only do you get a nice meal but you can also get absolutely hammered for under £30. Beware through that after a lot of curry and beer you might want to look up an adult Underjams Review online before commencing on such an occasion!

You can also visit The End, a hand where many popular DJs have played. Another very popular bar near Trafalgar square is Akbar. What is unique about Akbar is its Indian decoration. The architecture of the bar is inspired from Mogul architecture. It keeps a collection of drinks from all over the world. You can also look forward to the Indian snacks that this bar has to offer. They are mouth watering.
